I've been on the hunt for a really great taco filling recipe and I finally found it! This recipe makes the best tacos! It tastes just as good, if not better than the Mexican restaurants. Lean ground beef loaded with Mexican spices. This is definitely our go-to recipe for taco night! I always have the ingredients on hand to whip up a batch. This taco meat is great in tacos, taco salad, nachos, or any Tex-Mex recipe that called for seasoned ground beef. SO ditch the seasoning packet and give this recipe a try. It is sure to become a family favorite!
How to Make Easy Homemade Taco Meat
This recipe is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a large skillet, cook ground meat over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat. Add chili powder, salt, garlic powder, cumin, minced onion, a can of Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, red pepper flakes, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer until the liquid is reduced. That's it. All that is left to do is dig in!

- Feel free to use beef broth instead of water for extra flavor.

Ground beef, onion, garlic, chili powder, salt, cumin, diced tomatoes and green chiles, red pepper flakes, and water. You will never use a packet of taco seasoning again! - 2 lb ground beef
- 10 tsp chili powder (3 Tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon)
- 1 tsp salt, or to taste
- 1 (10-oz) can diced tomatoes and green chiles, undrained
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ¼ red pepper flakes, optional
- ¾ tsp cumin
- 2 Tbsp minced onion flakes

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until no longer pink. Drain fat.

Add remaining ingredients and simmer until liquid is reduced, about 10 minutes.
Can substitute ground turkey for ground beef.
